Hello! :)

It's been awhile since I last published a new blog post. I've been rather lazy, I would say. haha.

Anyways, for a re-start, I would like to encourage YOU, whoever YOU are, to start investing.

The global economy's recovery is back on track, some even boomz-ing. This will probably continue for another 7-8 years, before another cataclysmic recession comes. Vicious cycle, they say.

Co-related, inflation is rising too. Inflation erodes the real value of your money. Say the Consumer Price Index(CPI) rises at an average of 3% a year, imagine how much money has been 'lost' over the years! Thus, instead of putting all your money in the bank, why not use some of them to start investing? Of course, this is just one reason out of many, on why you should invest. This post is certainly too shallow to cover the depth of this whole issue. It is merely a small insight into investing on my part.

To begin, you could seek advice from friends who are already into investments. Ask them(with the proviso they are willing to help you. Financial-related books are an option too. You could also engage a financial consultant, adviser or any professional. I personally have two, one from Prudential and the other Philips Securities.

My investment portfolio is currently 30% gold, 40% cash and 30% equity securities - 15% mutual funds, 15% stocks. I intend to increase the securities portion to 40% when I have more $$$. Bonds are an option too. I will also allocate 10% for a cool and daring venture, when the EPL starts. No! It's not what you think - I do have have the temerity to engage in betting. I invest.

To those who are still sceptical of investing: I strongly encourage you to re-consider your stand. Read up more on it. There are obviously a lot of benefits if you start early.

To youths who feel ambivalent about taking the plunge: consider this quote from Nobel Laureate(Literature) Samuel Beckett, 'Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.' Afterall, we are still young. And that, is our biggest capital.

Hello, whoever you may be! :)

Its a very good time for me to reflect upon the promises I've made in the past.

1.After A lvls, i promised to
a) continue my community service (done)
b) strive for continued excellence (not to the best of my abilities)
c) start my financial planning (done)
d) get a scholarship (not yet not yet)

2. When i entered OCS, i promised to
a) do my best (not done)
b) come out of it saying i've breezed through it (done)
c) maintain relationships with my frens [ for males yes, for females no =( ]

After doing all these reflections, i think its also an apt opportunity for me to reaffirm my friendship with allll those whom i cherish really very dearly.

Whoever you may be: As long as you consider me as your friend, i would consider you mine too! :) I wanna say i really really cherish you as my friend. I might have hurt you in a way or another before. For that, i sincerely apologise. And i hope i've learned and changed. If not, please do tell me. I swear i will try and change for the better. I might have appeared to neglect you in the past, especially when i'm in NS now, but trust me, i've never and will never forget about you.

SO... i wish all you a very happy new year and may all your dreams/wishes/hopes be granted asap! :)

My personal opinion(open to ideas/debates)

Love can really make or break someone.

I see my friends, changing drastically because of love, some for the good and others for the worse. I've seen more of the latter recently.

One of my friends has began to turn vengeful, thinking of ways to deal with the guy who snatched away his love whilst trying to change his way of living so as to get his girlfriend back. Ironically, I believe changing for the sake of doing it would not change things. Things would remain status quo. Neither would it make him a happier person.

Worse still, another friend of mine wants to commit suicide. Yes, certainly, he deserves our sympathy for losing his love. But, surely, he is foolish to even think of doing that. This is an understatement.

He could be despondent, dejected and feel like hes lost all meaning in life. But that does not give him the entitlement to end his life, the right to hurt his family and friends. Simply because they care for him. He is merely transferring his pain to others who care for him or even creating more pain in this world. Yes. Its unfair, not justified and definitely not worth it. Please. Family and friends are there for a reason.

I understand it really hurts to be out of love, especially when the couple was together for years. The pain, the sudden lost of a pillar of support and meaning in life all adds up... But time will heal. Do not get me wrong. I am not saying it will heal fully. A tinge of pain and regret will still linger in their minds even when they become, say octogenarians, in future. But then, they'll find their actions stupid looking back at what they've done.

They should move on. Perhaps they can keep themselves occupied through reading, exercising, learning an instrument, playing computer games, hanging out with friends, doing community work and so on so forth. Possibly anything! Anything would suffice. After all, love in the purest sense should be about happiness, not anguish.

I shall attempt to be forward-looking on a micro basis.

(For the age of 19 and assuming perfect conditions)

In 2 months time...
the girls will enter university while most of the guys less Poly students will be in NS.

In 5 months to 1 years' time...
the girls will find <3 (aww) and have boyfriends in university.

The guys in army proceed to their 2nd year of NS. Some of the guys will feel depressed for awhile as they find their girlfriends snatched from them by the university guys. Yes its sad :( BUT they'll recover after some time :) The Poly guys wld have finished their studies and start their enlistment whilst contemplating whether they should enrol for future studies at universities.

In 2 years' time...
the females would have gotten used to university life and having steadfast relationships with their university seniors.

AND THE MOMENT comes for most of the guys - ORDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!! And they would start finding part-time jobs or slack and enjoy life while waiting for university term to start

In 5 years' time...
Graduation for the ladies! Some of the ladies would have transited to the 2nd part of their lives - walking down the aisle and bearing children for their husbands. The rest would still be thinking of marriage. Most of the ladies would have started work with the minority enjoying life as a taitai (haha lucky people =/)

The gentlemen would get invited by some of the ladies to attend their weddings. And it would be halfway through university for the gentlemen and i guess some of us would be jealous of the ladies who have graduated. And we would have repeated the vicious cycle of university seniors snatching NSmens' girlfrens =/ Or maybe we are kind enough to stop this cycle once and for all. lol. BUT that would mean we will remain single so i guess probably not :)

In 6 years and more...
Work starts for most of us(both ladies and gentlemen) and we find ourselves having fewer frens as time goes by. Marriage would be on the minds of the men. Finally, we would all live happily ever after!!! =) =D :) xD =p

lol. Hopefully everyting comes true. What an eggciting future! teeheehee. Ok see ya for now!

HELLO!

Went for Brotherhood/4o2 gathering at Winston's Condo ytd, and i learned swimming from Jia Fu and Dylan 师傅s there. Yes, i duno how to swim. haha very disgraceful rite =/ My mum wanted me to learn in pri school but i told her i don't want to cus i wanted to watch TV. HAHA.

Anws, I managed to learn frog style in 3hours all thanks to my superb 师傅s! :) AND I almost drowned cus i had leg cramp! BUT luckily Dylan saved me. THANKS DYLAN!

The gathering was considered a success i guess. Quite a few unfamiliar faces turned up as well! =D BIG THANKS to all those who came and WINSTON for hosting us! Really appreciate it! xD

I have been finding real passion with Stacy and she is so nice.

But I knew you would not approve of her because of all her piercing, tattoos, tight motorcycle clothes and the fact that she is much older than I am. But it' s not only the passion...Dad she's pregnant.

Had IPPT this morning.

Pull up: 7(7.5 actually) [2pts]
SBJ: 250cm [5pts]
Sit-ups: 65 [5pts]
2.4km: 9.36mins [5pts]

BUT IM JUST A 'PASS'! HAHA. but ok la. 0.5 more pull ups to silver and 2.5 pull ups to gold and 4.5 more to full marks! I will pia hard mansxzsz. Wish me lucks for my final IPPT on 20th Feb :)

Gonna get confined for the next 2 weeks cus of field camp. But gonna POP soon! 11th March :)

14 days came and went and im back home :)

Sorry for not updating. Have been veryyyyyyyyyyyy veryyyyy busy these days trying to settle whatever stuff i have to.

AND Im very happy nowww!!! Have never been this happy for very very long le. hahaha.

Why:

1) hahaha. Hmmm yes i might not have a girlfriend now, BUT at least the girl i like(dun ask who. hehe.) is living a fun and enriching life! So im quite happy for her and contented too! yay. haha.

2) I think i have great great great friends, like Christina, Jia Fu, Sook Xian, Ramandeep, Sophiana, Kok Hong, Winston, Guoping, Gavin, Yong Xin, Eewen and many many many others! hahaha. Sorry if i nvr mention u k cus the list is really very long!

And my family too! Have great grandparents, parents, uncles, aunties, siblings, cousins and so on so on =)

3) Just came back from SPF Overseas Scholarship tea session - 1 of the most fruitful scholarship tea sessions i've attended. I think i noe wad scholarship im going for alrdy!

Singapore Police Force Overseas Scholarship is really very attractive!
a) They pay for ur education and every other thing.(like any other scholarship)
b) NS will be cut short to just 5 months,
c) They pay u a monthly salary even when ur studying overseas! =OOOOO
d) The job is quite challenging, fun and meaningful

4) I think i like helping others. And influencing others to help others. But of cus, im not so noble. lol. I will choose the kind of people i wan to help, and the activities i wanna do. Haha. U can think im doing CIP cus im applying for a scholarship. But let time tell k. Wait and see if i'll continue doing CIP even after i get my scholarship or fail to get it(touch wood!) :)

Maybe if you think about it, ur life is probably as good as mine, if not better! Cherish wad u have.

Anws, heres my definition of a perfect life at my age(18+):
1) Love as in BGR
2) Have great frens and family. Great is subjective of cus.
3) Not bad academic results
4) Found meaning in life

yupyup. I noe of frens(u noe who u are. hehe) who are leading a perfect life now. haha very happy for them! But also very envious of them :(

Hello!

Had a primary 6 class gathering ytd at Heeren Shokudu. AND I THINK I SAW JAMIE YEO(OR SOMEONE WHO LOOKS LIKE HER) OUTSIDE HEEREN YTD!!!!!!!!!!

Ok back to the class outing... The turnout was quite gd, got like 10+ people :) hehe. The food and place were quite nice too. haha.

After dinner, 7 of us went to watch Ip Man. Wooohoo. The fighting scenes damn cool. haha. Some parts were quite funny too.

MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL!

Went Marina Square Hong Kong Cafe ytd to celebrate Winston's belated bdae as well as Christmas.

hahaha. The video shows how inquisitive Winston is. He was studying the appliance in details at a stall before his mum called him.

Hello!

Just went to watch Yes Man at Jurong Point with Yong Xin and Eewen. Supposed to be a make-up bdae outing for Yong Xin. hahaha its a comedy and theres abit of romance involved. Its damnnnn dammnnnn damnnnn nice and funny. A must-watch!

Time for the possible life-changing entry.

This is an invitation to join the Nan Hua Alumni Youth Wing.

Some information about it:

What it is:
A subsidiary wing under the main Nan Hua Alumni Association, free of charge for youths, that focuses on contributing to the school and community through fun, creative and engaging ways. It could be considered as an external CCA(to be confirmed), is a chance for you to earn CIP hours and do projects(Not PW kind of projects) that you are interested in. Joining the Alumni Youth Wing is not just about giving, it's also about helping each other out.

Who:
16 - 20 year olds i.e Secondary 4 graduating/graduated students, JC students, Poly students, National Servicemen, Undergraduates (females)

How to contribute:
Mainly, we will be doing interesting projects that will benefit either the school population or the community. For instance: Nan Hua Sec 1 Orientation Campfire o9 (school) and Environmental Awareness Concert (community). The projects can be initiated by any member(s) according to their interests. Members can choose not to initiate any projects and just participate in the ones that they are interested in. There will also other aspects to contribute. For example: JC/Poly talks by members from different schools to help the Secondary 4 students choose their future institutions.

When:
Meetings on Saturdays once every 3 or 4 weeks. 2-3 hours each meeting, none when nearing exam periods.

What is in it for YOU(just need to look at the appropriate group):
For graduating/graduated Secondary 4 students:
1. Headstart in an external CCA
2. CIP hours
3. Chance for classes to get together even after graduation
4. Fun through doing projects that you like
5. Guidance from Seniors to choose appropriate JC/Poly courses

Hello!

Went jogging earlier on at 6pm. Halfway through the jog, i encountered something interesting. While i was running my first lap, a small boy at the age of around 7 appeared out of nowhere. He was chasing after me, attempting to overtake me with his kick scooter.

I thought he was just being childish and so i ignored him, continuing at the same pace. BUT as he drew nearer, i experienced a weird feeling. I had a sudden urge to sprint and widen the distance, or in other words, i did not feel uncomfortable letting a kid overtake me. HAHA.

And so i realised how competitive(and yes, childish) i was. I knew all along that i was competitive, but i did not know the extent. Well, i think everyone dislikes losing. But for me, its not just dislike - i hate losing. haha.

Hmm anyways, feel like you've been living aimlessly, wasting your life?

Have a dream, a hope or an aspiration? Want to do something meaningful which is within your capabilities?

Ok im officially addicted to blogging just like how Dylan is addicted to using army language to communicate with us. HAHA. Stunz.

Before i talk about aniting else(viewer discretion is advised),

SUJUN!!!!!!!! THIS IS PROOF THAT I HAVE 6/8 PACS. HOW CLD U DOUBT ME! I feel terribly insulted and hurt man!

Errr the pacs in the first one were a little deformed so i went to train and managed to get them into better positions :)

Ok so today i went to shop for a present for Yongxin at Cityhall with Jiafu. Cldnt find aniting so just decided to treat her to a meal and/or movie when she returns from Malaysia. haha.

Then turned up for the make-up bdae dinner for Chua Yi Chong at West Coast Plaza(WCP)! Ate at BBQ Chicken. Er not very nice and i dun tink its worth it. But as a consolation, there were 2 cute waitresses(again) there!! hahahahaha.

Yonghui da-ge and Jiafu left early. Cheeky Yi Chong told us about someone's dirty little secret. LOL. Its damn funny! hahaha. But i shall be nice and not talk about it here =X

Anws, they were asking me why i chose WCP cus its like so random and no link. lol well, actually theres plenty of link! Our first class outing since we(4o2) graduated from Nan Hua was at Ginza(where WCP now stands very proudly). So i thought it'd be nice to end these class outings where we first started them. haha. yupyup :)

Could'nt blog as i was super busy and tired these few days. Im exhausted and sad. Fell asleep ytd night when i was coming home from my CIP and missed my bustop =.=

1st Dec: CIP meeting, Library trip to borrow books. Years since i last borrowed books. HAHA.

2nd Dec: CIP meeting, Prom, Post-Prom (Pictures in a min!)

3rd Dec: Baking(Seriously, i noe how to bake now. haha! Special thanks to Eileen!), CIP

Okok in case ur wondering wad exactly are the CIPs i've been harping on, they were/are Holland-Bukit Timah GRC Youth Community Day 2008(30th November) and a Japanese High School cultural exchange(3rd and 6th December).

Ooook. So PROM at Shangri-La Orchard went very well. The atmostphere was very high, took a lot of pictures and so on so on. Everyting was good except the food which was realli disappointing. haha.

POST PROM at Howl at the Moon(Near Cineleisure) was initially boring. Im not used to the lightings. But after some time, lots of people started getting enthu. And the atmostphere was just SUPERBLY CRAZY. A lot of us were dancing to the super high music. And some of us, especially Allan, looked like he was on drugs. lol.

No wonder business(esp male customers) is so good. HAHA. Ok, jus kiddingggg.

After the dinner, all of us parted ways and 'went home'. lol. BUT of cus, given our creativity, it was obvious that the bdae celebration was not to be so simple. haha yup so we all faked as if we were going home.

But but but, we had alrdy arranged to meet again at the playground below Sop's house at 11pm to decorate the place with candles, lightsticks and sparklers! Then at 1130, we called her down and sang The Bdae Song to her.

Oops. Sounds like we forgot bout our dear Liu Kong. haha. We did nt, ok... We included his name in the song and decorated his name with sparklers too! He was quite surprised and touched. Almost cried i tink. haha! :)

Thank youuuu everyone for your concern! :)

Am feeling much better now EXCEPT for the fact that i have to fold 50 paper flowers! Seriously bro, its a very challenging task. Took 5hrs just to fold 10. HAHA ok i suck.

Anyways, ten years down the road, we'll probably look back on what we've done and smile, saying how childish we were when we were young. For instance, remember how often we used the phrase 'don't friend you liao!' when we were all in primary school? lol.

But for now, i guess no one cares. So heck that for now. There are times for us to be immature, and times for us to grow up and be adults. Sadly, nows the time to do both. We are caught in between :(

Eh. Just some thoughts:
1. Being perfect is actually a flaw itself. Logical?

2. We would sometimes do things on purpose even when we know its not really right to do so. You know, like when your (not so pretty)wife asks u if shes pretty? haha oops. Agree?

Hello everyone(28th hour awake and counting)...

Just came back from 4o2 chalet cus was feeling unwell. Had bbq last night, and everything was going well until some #&^*(!@)_!@_*@_ incident occured.

So, ytd night I heard a few of them talking about how the turnout for this yr's chalet was far worse than last yr's even though Mr Chia and Princess Lim turned up(many many thanks to the fabulous teachers, including Mr Yeo, Ms Wassan for rmbing us still!).

Well, the actual number didnt really differ much, mayb it was just lesser by 2 or 3? What actually made the turnout seem poorer was that the class appeared more disunited than before. Alas, finally, IT has arrived - 4o2 is falling, no, i mean plunging.

For the past 2 years, i've been trying my best to hold the class together for as far and long as possible through organising class outings, bdae dinners, Tchers' Day celeb and etc. And the enthu-ness just declines gradually event after event.

New cliques form, old cliques disperse. New couples get together, old ones wither. (hah, great if you get wad im saying.)

Just on Monday, as i was attending the Nan Hua High Sec 4 Prom as an Alumni, i wanted to challenge the graduating classes to stay united, bonded, for at least 2 years. Well, at that point in time i thought 4o2 managed to do that. Thought is the word.

I really wonder whether im being taken granted for.

I have had really hard times begging person A to come, persuading B to convince C to turn up, requesting D to drag E along and ... ... Of course, theres always the enthu bunch of Soccer Boys(heartfelt gratitude) who will agree almost immediately without fail.

But i guess the increasing level of difficulty is taking its toll on me. Besides, I always end up losing things after each event, be it money, my wallet, bag etc etc :( Yesyesyes, u might be quick to say that mayb its just because im getting old and i no longer have adequate stamina to organise events! But thats not that case =.=

Anyways, i am NOT giving up on them. Not so easy. Nor would Xingzong wish to see that. SO, im gonna try for one last time! Just this last try.

I loved 4o2. And i still do now.

Money Leeching Machine (MLM)

Hello again!

First of all, do not be confused. Seriously, don't be. The MLM im talking here about is 'not' Multi Level Marketing. Nonono. Its Money Leeching Machine :)

Just a brief description of how MLM works generally since there are a lot of different varities of it.

First, u get convinced by someone on a very good investment scheme.

Following that, you start an account with your boss. Upon that, heartfelt congrats. Why? Because the next few weeks, months, or even years, you will have to keep finding new clients to sign up accounts with you in order for you to get your money back through commissions. Yes, it is an infinite process. Oh. Sounds like a quick and easy way to earn big bucks and get rich, isnt it?

But lets take a closer look at MLM. Let us do a quick mindmap. Say everyone needs to pull in 4 people to get back his capital. These 4 people will have to pull in another 16 people to recoup their losses. A picture of a pyramid immediately appears in our minds. Of course, proponents would say that there are other ways MLM can work. I agree, but generally, MLM works in a way similar to that of a pyramid.

So, the top of the pyramid might succeed. But what about the rest? What of those who signed up with you? Do they not have to find more people to sign up accounts with them to get back their investments? It has been said that MLM statistically does not work for 90% of those involved. The statistic is obviously even greater at the bottom of the pyramid.

Besides, it is a common fact that the fastest way to get money is from the 3 Fs - Families, Friends and Fools. Ignoring Fools, the people whom they are likely to recruit first are their friends and relatives. When the scheme fails and Friends and Families are unable to get their money back, who do they think of? The person who sold them the account, and the unscrupulous methods he employed to convince them to buy the product, isnt it? Relationships spoilt. Worth it?

Furthermore, it works out for HIM and a small group of people at the top, not those at the bottom. And his FRIENDS and FAMILIES are the ones paying for his success. And this is even assuming that he can convince them to buy. If not, he ends up losing his money and their trust. Relationships strained. Worth it?

Of course, just like writing General Paper essays, we need examples to back our arguments. So heres an excerpt from the Straits Times last year.

Sunshine Empire was placed on the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s (MAS) investor alert list last month and that of Malaysia’s Securities Commission a few months ago.

The regularly updated MAS list warns people of companies which may be offering products regulated by MAS without authority.

You could google up MLM to know more about it.

So, please boycott MLM if you have come to a conclusion that is similar to mine. There are definitely better ways to invest. Prudential definitely sounds better. Im not advertising for them ah. Just need more examples. haha.
